NYC 2K5
September 12th, 2005The following is an email I recieved from my buddy Scott (aka Thirdi) who lives in NYC and whose city I am about to visit (fourth time I’ve been, I think?) this weekend. This is an excellent guide to his new digs and workplace, as well as a preview as to what will be happening during my visit (read: music, vids, and ganja). I am posting it here for posterity…
Note: The email is addressed to me and my wife, who is not coming along on this trip but will be visiting Scott in the near future…
Hey happy couple-
Here is some info for you. Some of it maybe useless, but I thought I would try to be thorough after all of willa’s expert planning skills. If you don’t know now you know.
My appartment
47 west 75th st. #1R
NY, NY 10023I live in a brownstone building on 75th between Central Park West and Columbus Ave. My building is closer to Columbus. Including the building on the corner which has the Express Store, I am about the 6th building in from Columbus Ave on the North side of the street(uptown). The building itself is a beige color that is all one color(actually quite ugly) The address is in gold and black stick on numbers above the doorway. My apt is under the stairs. Usually the gate is open but if you are using my keys, use the one with the notch in it to open the gate. My apt (1r is not labeled, so once you are through the gate, walk to the back of the hallway and I am the last door at the end. Use the key without the notch to open only the top lock(this is the only lock on the door that is ever locked).
Inside-
Once you have made it inside, you will see my old ghetto computer in front of you at the desk.
Help yourself to whatever in the fridge(usually not much in there)
-My room is at the bottom of the stairs. The first door you see. It will be open. My light is the lamp, it is a bit funny, so you might have to play with it for a second to get it to stay on. I will leave all the weed on my bedside table. Feel free to smoke as much as you want. There is only one person who could be home, when you get there. His name is Tom, he is cool. He smokes on occaision. Basically you can smoke wherever, whenever you want. This could be a good time to check out the backyard. I will leave a towel out if you want to shower.xbox
The xbox is upstairs. If you want to play-
-turn on the TV manually.
-turn on xbox
-grab the small grey remote(jvc), find the tv/video cancel button (middle right on the remote under the numbers)
-click that until you see the green screen
-try not to mess up my stats (don’t want my numbers going down)Scott’s work
Paul Smith Showroom
121 Greene St 2nd Flr.
NY, NY 10012
212 254 3530 ext. 10I work in Soho.(south of houston) There are a couple of trains close to my work. The closest is the R and W train. The train I take to work is the C train, the E train also stops at the same stop. If you take the train from JFK, the best thing to do is get on the A train and stay on until you are at a stop that the C or E train also stops at. You should be able to do that in Brooklyn. (the E train does not stop at 72nd and Central Park West. Only the C train. Anyways if you get on the C or E train take it to the Spring St. Stop. Once you exit the train, walk west(which is the opposite direction of the way that you walk out of either exit of the train station. so when you get to the top of the stair turn around and walk accross the street. There are 2 possible streets one is spring and the other is van dam.
Either way walk accross the st. If you are on spring st walk 5 blocks east and make a left on Greene st and go up 1 and 1/2 blocks and my office is right above the Shuemura makeup store. If you get off on van dam, walk up til you get to prince st. and follow prince down to Greene. Make a left at the replay store.
Once you are on Greene St. There are double doors and above the door you will see 121. There is door buzzer with Paul Smith on it, buzz it and we will buzz you in, take the elevator to the 2nd floor and viola.MUSIC

one more thing-
if you take a cab from JFK.
Just tell the cab driver Greene st,. between houston and prince.
Also 2 things going on in NYC this week besides the Minstrel show.
-Fashion week (as you are a newly wed this does not apply to you, but make sure you point out all the hot models you see, so I can enjoy them.)
-The UN is holding the largest gathering of world diplomats in the history of the UN. So stay away from midtown east. The BUSHman is in town starting wed I think and it is over on Friday. Traffic should suck, so we should metrocard it.
