9th was in the Building

September 16th, 2005

We went to the Little Brother/Justus League Showcase show last night at B.B. King’s in New York and I’m happy to report that 9th was definitely in the building…

Pros: Nice venue. J-Live was dope. Got to see L.E.G.A.C.Y. and The Away Team. Darien Brockington was there. The Little Brother set was out of control: they played a bunch of shit from The Minstrel Show, as well as Foreign Exchange and Sleepers. Brockington rocked with ‘em on the Minstrel tracks, which sounded so sweet. The climax was Slow it Down, when the beat dropped, Phonte, Scudda, Big Doh, 9th adn Darien danced in sequence as Big Pooh spit his verse…classic.

Cons: Crazy-long time before Little Bother. Let’s see if I can list all of the openers: Some new Erykah Badu/Macy Gray-ish chick, Recognize and Rass Kass, Rhymefest, J-Live, L.E.G.A.C.Y., The Away Team, Darien Brockington. Needless to say, I was a bit sore by the time LB came out.

Biggest Suprise: Phonte dressing up as Percy Miracles for Cheatin’ and Make Me Hot towards the end of the show, that was super-funny, and that boy can sing!

Biggest Letdown: 9th not actually performing with Little Brother. He wasn’t on stage when they first came out, but hopped out on with his Raleigh Durham T on and with T.I. about three songs in. Although he wasn’t performing, he definitely had a presence the whole show…still though, I want to hear him mix some beats!

Sounded like it was a sweet show. What up with 9th not mixing??? Damn, missed out on it again. That’s bizarre, maybe he has carpel tunnel right now and is on medical leave from scratching and throwin’ down his beats. That’s a craze amount of opening acts, was Big Dho kickin’ kick in the back?

Percy miracles was great and all. Let us not forget Evolution dropping those dope rhymes over the 9th wonder beats. Where you at el gato????????

I read an article and saw this on the Okayplayer boards:

While 9th remains invested in Little Brother, you won’t see him behind the decks at their shows anymore unless “it’s like an awards show or something like that;” his production schedule, along with the tribulations of raising two kids, keeps him too busy. It’s all gravy, though, says Rapper Big Pooh.
