While the wife’s away…

October 26th, 2005

My wife has just left for a three week trip to Spain (with a short stop over in NYC). She is the reason for the structure of my daily routine and now that structure is suddenly very flexible. There is an element of stress associated with this. I can’t help but feel like I have to maximize my “free” time, but the little things that I am accustomed to Willa handling for me are sure to get in the way of this. I now have to dress myself in the morning, blah. I also have to resist the urge to eat fish & chips for every meal, lame! In addition, have to do something besides play video games for hours on end every night, seriously?

Or do I? Here’s what my day would look like if I followed my pseudo-bachelor instincts and blocked out any sort of reason from clouding my decision-making:

  • Wake up
  • Play Xbox
  • Dress myself (optional)
  • Eat fish & chips
  • Play Xbox
  • Eat fish & chips
  • Play Xbox
  • Sleep

After listing it all out, it looks pretty bad. I will need to slip in a few things to create the illusion that my time didn’t completely revolve around video games and fish & chips. I can think of a few things to slip in:

  • Wake up
  • Drink a coffee
  • Play Xbox
  • Dress myself (optional)
  • Eat fish & chips
  • Listen to music
  • Play Xbox
  • Eat fish & chips
  • Drink a beer
  • Play Xbox
  • Sleep

Gosh this is tough. I might have to expend more brain power than I want to in order to figure this out. I hope they don’t run out of fish & chips…

    Hi Nick,

Hi! I’m Terry a close friend of Stephen Drake-Jones and Connie. I had dinner (late lunch as we are in Spain lol) at Stephen’s place yesterday and was delighted to see Willa again. You are a lucky man, Nick. Willa gave me the address for this website and told me I should look at your drawings and photos. I did and was much impressed. However she did NOT give me her e-mail address for sending messages and the photos I took yesterday at dinner/lunch. Well, before she leaves Spain I hope to see her again so I suppose I can still ask her it. OR… you could send me yours to my e-mail address… Talk later. Nice website you’ve got there. Willa’s having a great time with her Mum! Cheers! Terry
