Upping the Ante
October 31st, 2005Now that the first music challenge is under our belt, it’s time for a new one. I think that we should challenge each other with a compilation of music in a different genre (other than hip-hop) that we have an affinity for.
Music Challenge #2
Pick a genre of music other than hip-hop and make a “best-of” compilation.
The GOAL of this mixtape will be to do one of two things: 1) Turn one of us on to a genre of music we aren’t or haven’t been into previously, or 2) Put together the best of a genre so that we may appreciate it that much more.
The ONLY stipulations of this complation are that the entire collection be within the same genre and that the genre can not be hip-hop, nor anything similar.

How loosely or tight is the same genre rule?

Hmm, we should have an authoritative source on this, and maybe I can find one, but it should be common sense.
For instance, say I were to do a reggae comp, I could have songs that fell within the sub-genre’s of reggae, such as: dancehall, reggae ska, dub, etc. But I couldn’t throw a Counting Crows track on there too (like I have any Counting Crows, anyway).
A crawl through the Amazon music genre’s could serve as a guide for now.

Werd Up, this could happen, but I would like to restrict the following genres from the comp competition:
Death Metal
Country
All Girl Band
Poka/Yodeling
But I’m more bankin’ on the fact that niether of you hve any of this type of music…
