Massive Painting Session
October 8th, 2006Yesterday, Abram (aka El Gato) and myself painted for a solid 12-hours (!). Of course, there was a break or two in there to play some box (Burnout Revenge on the 360 is a great game), and we had some amazing brew to keep us warm and motivated.
Abram started a new masterpiece (on a huge canvas that he may still be working on this time next year ;-) and I continued a work-in-progress that I have been engaged in for the past couple of months.
We both worked in acrylics on canvas (Daniel Smith provided the supplies). The piece I am working on is a homage to our new home, Seattle. I turned a canvas perfect for a horizontal landscape vertical and used the length to give a sweeping view of the city and some of it’s landmarks, or at least the landmarks I associate most with.
Of course, realism is not high on the list of priorities, nor is representing each “landmark” accurately a top goal of this piece. I simply wanted to encompass as much of the trademark Seattle sights into a well put-together composition so that people who know Seattle will instantly get it and people who maybe haven’t seen Seattle will be intrigued and look forward to seeing the city at some point in their lives.
I am not done with the painting yet. There are still lots of details to fill (the salmon by the space needle, the monorail, etc), but I made lots of progress yesterday.

I will let El Gato speak on his piece!

yeah yeah, that was dope, it didn’t even seem like 12 hours went by on Sat, we were ripped off. Good times. The cord to my camera has previously been chewed by the cat, so no pics right now.

Can’t wait to see the finished masterpiece! And I am looking forward to a Michael Jackson dance off sometime soon. I am picturing ‘Thriller’ during jim’s halloween party? If you think you can handle it that is?

Definitely, I hope to finish that painting up this weekend so I can begin on a new one the following weekend.
As far as the dance-off goes, I’m all about it. In fact, I’ve been wondering who I’m going to be for Halloween and this might of settled it.
Question is, do I go for Michael from Thriller before transformation into beast or after?
