Massive Painting Session III
November 10th, 2006The third day in the the “Massive Painting Session” series happened last weekend, and just like the previous sessions (session I and session II), Abram and I continued on our march to being crowned the greatest painters to have ever lived.
I am now two pieces into my sunrises series. If you think that’s totally girly and feminine of me, well, keep your thoughts to yourself because I am an artist, and I as such, I have this thing called “artistic freedom” at my disposal which renders all criticism null and void.
The sunrises series is my attempt to break out of my usual illustration mode and place all of my focus on color and light. Lake Washington provides the perfect subject for these studies, and I have been capturing particularly unique moments on camera and going off these shots for the basis of each painting in the series.
The painting on the right was done in acrylics on canvas and is 20″ x 16″. The picture it was based on can be seen here.

Loving the colors… espcially the blues… with all the shadows… As for comments about this being girly… I would never…. (at least not outloud) ;-)

A great palette started there. The movements in saturation are nice and help set the mood. Not too darn girly either. Not that there is anything wrong with that . . .

Massively masculine! For a renaissance man anyway. Dark, stormy, moody…with a hint of hope for the promise of a dry day….

Thanks everyone.
I used a new fan brush on this painting as well as some irradecent blue paint that I picked up which was really unique.
