Hungover in Redmond
November 16th, 2006Some of you might not be aware of this fact, but Microsofties like love to drink. Beer and wine are frequently featured at the office and the fact that someone was able to successfully login to their computer is reason enough to pop the bottle and catch a buzz. Hell, my neighbor keeps a mini-fridge stocked with Fat Tire that is available in an emergency (i.e. when MS isn’t footing the bill for liquor).
Being a Microsoftie, I wholeheartedly embrace the workplace culture in this regard. I participated in a particularly rowdy round of partying last evening at Teatro ZinZanni (awesome) and I am seriously feeling it today.
Not that we need an excuse but the occasion for the festivities last night was “team morale”. Nothing does more for team morale than free drinks, a sultry songstress and flying trapeze artists I must say. The show was great, and everyone had a fantastic time, but I should not have had that last manhattan.

As a manager, I strongly believe in this method of management and wish I could employ this on more than a yearly basis for my employees.

Well, now you know better to schedule an early morning meeting the day after a “morale event.” I’ll take full responsibility for introducing you to the smoky kiss of Jameson’s housed in a low ball powerhouse poised to knock all the pins down in the bowling alley of your head. Whiskey, the pearl of the peat, the smoky goodness of brushfire shenanigans, a spotlight into the marshes of your soul, briny whisp of sea sirens with urchins in their hair. Slainte!

Indeed, the morale event ruined me for hours the next day. But it did boost my morale, at least once I boosted my water intake. ;-)
