Willa Gets Her Way
November 30th, 2006First off, let me say that I am not a scrooge. I like Christmas very much. I like the food, the presents spirit of giving, and the family time. I generally like Christmas decorations as well, however, they generally scream ‘pain-in-the-ass’ for a number of reasons:
- I am the one that has to dig the boxes of Christmas decorations out of the very darkest recesses of the storage unit.
- I am the one who has to get the tree, set it up in the stand and, best of all, get the sap-happy thing to stand up straight.
- I am the one that has to deal with the previous year’s rats nest of lights.
With these thoughts in the back of my mind, I gently propositioned that maybe this year we don’t need to have a tree.
What’s that you say? Blasphemy? I didn’t think so, but…
She was not having it, no chance in hell. However, she did see the wisdom in getting a small tree that we could actually fit into our car and peacefully co-exist with in the house. So I take some solace in the fact that I didn’t totally let her get her way…or did I?

I can’t believe you would even consider NOT having a tree this year - I will be there!!!
(This was cute - and yes, I understand your frustrations. Guys have it so bad…not!)
Love,
Mom

What do the cats think of it so far?

Without the tree there is no place for the presents (Um, I mean the spirit of giving). Ask youself… What would Santa think?

Without a tree, Santa won’t have any place to put gifts. Can’t you just throw some lights on a house plant? That would probably work just fine. A Christmas Yucca.

Gourmet - The cats are totally ambivalent about the tree, it’s very boring to them.
Dr. Brock and Marmot - You better believe I suggested using our big tall plant as a Christmas tree…Willa was not having it!

I am so jealous that Mom #1 is going to be in Seattle for Christmas! Lucky you! I plan to have the biggest tree that will fit into my apartment(and budget)….as per Isabel, who currently “gets her way”…hmmmm must run in the family, except that I am usually the one to organize the entire Christmas thing-advent candles anyone?!
Love, Mom in MO
PS desperation drives us to decorate our houseplants….or laziness…..or occasionally poverty-we make the best with what we have!

You’re a mean one, Mr. Grinch.
You really are a heel.
You’re as cuddly as a cactus,
You’re as charming as an eel.
Mr. Grinch.
