Time to File
March 26th, 2007Just realized that I haven’t filled out my tax forms yet this year. For the past 4 years I have used TurboTax to prepare and file my wife and I’s tax return. Seems to be a little more expensive this year ($29.95), so I’m looking around a little to see what my other options are.
I am leaning on sticking to TurboTax as I have never had any issue with their service and have always received a nice return in a timely fashion. I don’t think last year saw too many things that will effect us tax wise, other than purchasing a car and moving. Although I don’t think I have too many receipts for moving, not that it probably matters anywho though, si?
Where and how have ya’ll filed? Any suggestions?

Don’t forget to write off the sales tax for the new car. You get that on top of your normal state tax deduction. Also don’t forget your $30 telephone tax deduction.
Cheers,
Paul

And I can write off the sales tax even if I technically paid the tax in this calendar year correct? The date of sale for the car was December 30th, so I would think so…

I use the trusty ol’ pen and paper route, downloading my forms and instruction via irs.gov. Because so many people electronically file and I file early, it doesn’t take very long at all to paper file, especially since most of it is outsourced to India anyway.

Wow, keeping it old school Abram. I refuse to file on paper anymore out of principle (and apparently out of a need to pay extra).

I do what I can to slow the government down from taking my moolah. :O)

I hear that man. Damn the man!
Although Willa and I are still getting money back so they already had our moolah.

We are doing some of ours in TurboTax since it does the math for us. And for fun I thought I’d throw in a State return for Cali as well!

Taxes are so much fun that I have to share the experience with others. I have someone else do my taxes. It ends up costing around $100 but that makes the tax preparer responsible to do it correctly.

AH yes, I like how you are thinking here Marmot. Pushing the responsibility off onto others is a great practice!
