Adobe, Google, Yahoo Team for Flash Search

July 2nd, 2008

This is pretty big news for the world wide web. Flash content is now going to be indexed by your favorite search engines. That’s a pretty huge coup for Adobe’s ubiquitous Flash platform. I had never thought about the fact that Flash-based applications aren’t exactly searchable as they are compiled files that playback in a browser plugin like a media file might. But apparently the big engines have already been able to crawl the static text in Flash movies and now are going to be able to use a customized version of the Flash player to “interact” with most any Flash-based web application and, all-the-while, glean information from it for you eventual perusal.

Very cool.
